Hand off from spoken explanation to a visible software action

Plan a clear handoff between a talking-head explanation and a real software demonstration, with an editable timing worksheet.

Mark the sentence and action that must meet

A speech-to-demo handoff is clear when the viewer sees the relevant control or result as the speaker describes it. Write the script and identify the exact product action first. Then choose the shot that shows the action with enough interface context. Avoid relying on a timestamp until you have the actual recording and can inspect it.

This fictional example uses a project call note with a next-step section. The timing below is an illustrative edit plan, not a measured clip or approved export.

Create a provisional timeline

For a short video, you might plan 0–3 seconds for the speaker saying “After a call, find the next step in the project note.” Around 3–6 seconds, the speaker says “Open the project and choose the call note” as the recording shows those actions. From 6 seconds onward, hold the next-step section while the speaker says “Check the action you recorded.” These are flexible planning ranges, not universal duration rules.

Once you have the actual clips, mark the frame where the control becomes visible and the frame where the result is readable. Adjust the speech, trim or hold rather than assuming the provisional timing fits.

Fix common timing problems

If the spoken instruction begins before the interface appears, add a brief lead-in or move the cut earlier. If the screen action is too fast, hold a readable frame or re-record at a comfortable pace. If the control is hidden by captions, reposition or shorten the captions while preserving the approved spoken words.

Do not crop so tightly that the viewer loses the context needed to understand where the control is. Use a sanitized account and omit sensitive names, messages or other private information.

Check the export without narration assistance

Watch once at normal speed on a phone. Ask a reviewer what action was demonstrated and where the result appeared. If they cannot tell, revise the cut or capture a clearer screen. Compare captions and spoken words against the approved transcript, including any qualifiers or setup conditions.

The actual timestamps, screenshots and review findings must come from your own recording. This plan does not claim a video has been created or that a particular timing will perform better.

Copy the planning worksheet

Use this worksheet in your own notes. Fill it with verified product details and actual review observations before sharing an asset.
